Ginger, in addition to being a culinary condiment, is also used for warm compresses as a decongestant for painful areas or those congested with mucus.

Ginger is recommended as a condiment since, like other spices, it provides beneficial energy to the respiratory areas. Only a little is needed to prepare Miso soup, whose yang is quickly dispersed throughout the entire body, especially in colder weather.


To make a compress, put one or two teaspoons of ginger in a small cotton bag and submerge in very hot water (without letting it reach a boil). After a few minutes, the water is infused with ginger. Soak a towel and apply to the affected area as a compress, trying to keep it as hot as possible. The treatment takes 20 minutes, until the skin has turned a reddish color. The heat can be maintained by covering the area with a wool cloth.
