Nori

Nori is the name of various species of red and green seaweed that grow in temperate waters in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean Oceans.

Nori seaweed has long leaves with very fine, almost transparent edges, and a gelatinous texture. Once it is harvested, it is then washed and shredded into flakes. It is then soaked in cold water for an hour and usually dried in the sun, although nowadays it is also dried in the oven in order to meet the market demand.

The best quality Nori comes in dense, thick sheets with a very shiny blackish-purple color. Lower quality Nori comes in thinner sheets with a dull, grayish-green color.

Instructions for use: Use to prepare rice rolls, vegetables and/or fish (sushi), or toast it over an open flame and cut into strips as an appetizer.
